Nigel has the distinction among
all Alistair's musician mates of being the one who can turn his hand
to any instrument you like as long as it's bass. It's a skill
he picked up while all the other kids at college were going to lectures,
sitting exams and having sex.
Known variously as Skinny Nige and Heterosexual Nige, he was born on February
8 1968 which makes him an Aquarius, a sign notorious for not believing
in astrology.
He shares this birthday with Gary Coleman out of Diff'rent
Strokes, fact fans,
and the UK number one single on the day he came into this world was Everlasting
Love by The Love
Affair.
Naturally with this musical and celebrity background his influences include
the Sex Pistols, Specials, Violent Femmes, Cardiacs, Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Victor Wooten (yeah right), Prokofiev and Radiohead, whom he describes
as 'the Pink Floyd it's OK to like'. His claims to fame include
"Nirvana cleaned my mate's kitchen" and "my ex-girlfriend and me both
had birthdays on the same day as a queen got beheaded".
These days Nigel lives in Brighton in a flat decorated with bass guitar
parts and bubble wrap. His day job involves sitting at a computer screen
pushing buttons. His mates do not include local celebrities Fatboy Slim,
Phats & Small and Nick Cave.
He is cagey about his musical history and would like it to be known that
he is not available for weddings, bar mitzvahs etc, though he has done
the odd birthday party.
